Phyllis Stine graduated from the University of California at Long Beach with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. While in college, she played in both band and orchestra. She was also a member and officer of Delta Zeta sorority. She was an active member of the Santa Rita Club of the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum where she served a term as president. Ms. Stine was awarded the "For Service Award" and a Life Membership in the organization. She has always been a member of the Methodist Church and has served several offices on the boards in Midland and Anchorage, Alaska. She was given the "Woman of Distinction" award from the Permian Basin Girl Scouts. While living in Midland, she served on the board of R.S.V.P. and was a member of the Republican Women's Club and Lioness Club. She worked for the Midland County Elections Office until her move to Abilene. In Abilene, she is a member of P.E.O., the Hendrick Hospital Auxiliary, the Grace Museum, and the Abilene Zoo. Previously, Ms. Stine served a term on the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners.
She has traveled widely with her husband (now deceased) while he was with Exxon having spent time in Germany, Libya, Alaska and several US cities. Her three children were each born on a different continent. She has several grandchildren and is now working on "greats".
